I was slightly skeptical when I first walked into The Pint House in Orange, nestled in a shopping center on Katella Avenue. I worried that this place, which labeled itself an American Bistro Pub, would be just another upscale wannabe eatery. However, as I sat down to look over the menu, I was pleasantly surprised.
The ambiance is warm and inviting, with photos of Angels Stadium and the Chapman campus adorning the walls, and decorative centerpieces and candles on each table.
The first thing I noticed is the expansive number of beers The Pint House has on tap—enough to satisfy even the pickiest beer lover. And the bar area is the perfect environment to watch a game while enjoying a drink and appetizers with friends.
I selected Bruschetta from the appetizer menu to split with a friend. Tomatoes, basil, garlic, sea salt and pine nuts adorn the crispy crouton-crostini, which is served with a side of citrus tossed greens. It was a tasty, fresh way to begin my meal.
The menu is extensive, but not overwhelming, with everything from burgers and sandwiches to ribs, hot wings and pasta. The real gem, however, is the selection of beer specialties. Among creative options like the Beer Float, which is your choice of Black Phoenix or Guinness over vanilla ice cream, and Black Velvet champagne with a Guinness floater, I selected Belgian OJ—Blue Moon with a splash of orange juice.
The orange juice adds a smooth flavor to the already light flavor of the beer. It’s the perfect pairing for my burger of choice, the Santa Fe.
The Santa Fe burger, with melted pepper jack cheese, Ortega chilies, avocado, tomato, caramelized onions and chipotle mayo is a seamless pairing of spicy and savory. The flavor of the one-third pound burger wasn’t overpowering, but packed a punch. The French fries served on the side were classic and delicious.
The only complaint I have about The Pint House is the price range. I paid $13 for my burger and fries. It was delicious, yes, but I’ve had gourmet burgers for several dollars less.
Yet if you’re looking for a trendy place to grab a meal and beers with friends, and aren’t worried about dropping a bit of cash, The Pint House is definitely worth a try.
