The hidden gem of the Plaza is not a restaurant, it’s a thrift store.
Once you walk through its little red door, you will enter a maze you would not mind getting lost in…
Strappy stilettos, buckled boots, fuzzy sweaters, bold statement necklaces and decor you would want in your own house make this shop unique and homey.
All proceeds directly benefit Casa Teresa, a nonprofit organization that provides a supportive family home to pregnant women and their babies facing difficult circumstances.
Yvonne Lopez, volunteer store manager, said the store was created as a job-training program for the young mothers of Casa Teresa and as a means to have a steady source of income for the organization’s various programs.
“The women are with us three to six months developing a lot of customer service as well as interpersonal skills,” Lopez said. “They’re building self-confidence and they are also raising awareness about our organization by talking with the community.”
Lopez encourages Chapman students to shop at The Collection by Casa Teresa instead of heading to the mall.
“When you go to a large retailer at the mall, you’re making someone else richer and richer,” Lopez said. “Here, you’re actually saving lives and you’re helping this organization make a difference.”
