Katie Weinstein, 28, a second-year Dodge College of Film and Media Arts graduate student, died suddenly at 2 a.m. Jan. 7.

In an email to the Chapman community, Jerry Price, vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of students, wrote that Weinstein unexpectedly became ill Jan 6. Details regarding Weinstein's death have not been released by the Orange County Coroner's Office.

Weinstein's friends and family members have been using Facebook to share memories of the late student.

"I loved your hugs so much and you always knew how to make me smile when I was around you," wrote Lauren Burcar, Weinstein's cousin. "I wish we could've made more memories together. I miss you so much... I love you and wish I could hug you one more time.

Mike Woodward, alumnus of Dodge, wrote:

"Chapman lost someone smart, genuine and special. You will forever be remembered. So happy to have known you for the short amount of time that we shared."

Dodge faculty, staff and students will be planning a memorial service for Weinstein. Details have not been announced.
