Chapman’s women’s tennis team snapped its two-game losing streak Saturday, crushing Occidental 9-0 after losing to La Verne 8-1 Friday.

The Panthers (8-19, 4-3) annihilated the bottom-ranked Tigers (1-13, 0-7) in nine straight sets, rebounding from the loss the day before.

“Good teams have players that are able to take a loss, make those changes they need to make and win the next match,” said senior Rachel Fox.

One of those changes was starting strong as the Panthers roared to a 3-0 start in doubles match-ups against Occidental, a stark contrast from their previous match.

On Friday, Chapman started 1-2 in doubles, with senior Sophia Duon and sophomore Madeline Saunders providing a brief moment of relief with their 8-5 victory. The celebration was short lived as La Verne (11-5, 5-2) stormed back to win six straight singles matches.

“They’re a really tough team and are good on and off the court, supporting each other as teammates,” Fox said. “They’re very resilient and had a lot of fight in them.”

Fox said the Tigers overwhelmed the Panthers with their physical and mental strength. Bouncing back from the loss, the Panthers cleaned up their game, playing tighter and with more intensity.

The Panthers continue their conference play Saturday against topranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (16-1, 5-0).
